Last week, a very old application (10 years old) broke because the number of dimensions within a static array was exceeded.

The application is a front-end to the spooler and as such, if the number of entries within the HOLD (&HOLD&) file exceeds the number of dimensions within the array the program aborts.

The array is a two dimensional and it had exceeded the maximum allocated size permissible.

So I decided to do a quick find and replace; replace the () with and see what the speed is like.

Well, being old school, I know that dynamic arrays are slower that dimensioned arrays. But I could not measure any noticeable increase in time using the dynamic array.

I will have to do some time tests to see if there is still significant speed differences. I wonder…
